In this course, students learn that Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Diode lasers are used for skin rejuvenation, skin tightening & wrinkle reduction, hair removal, skin pigmentation, and spider vein removal. This intensive hands-on training covers how IPL & Diode lasers work, including the underlying physics, safety protocols, client consultation, and practical treatment delivery. This program also serves as the prerequisite for the Advanced Laser Program.

What you will be able to do.
- Evaluate and discuss basic skin, hair, biology, and anatomy
- Distinguish between facial rejuvenation concepts
- Analyze skin pigmentation reduction techniques and perform treatments
- Understand and perform sanitation and disinfectant procedures
- Evaluate and apply IPL and diode laser history and operating principles
- Critically evaluate the physics of lasers
- Describe laser operating safety procedures on clients
- Distinguish between skin tightening, pigmentation removal, and spider vein removal
- Describe and evaluate acne treatment by IPL & Diode
- Evaluate and apply equipment testing and maintenance
- Critically assess laser parameters (wavelength, pulse duration, spot size, energy settings)
- Distinguish between types of cosmetic hair reduction lasers
- Perform skin typing and fluency selection
- Understand and perform post-laser treatment care for the client
- Evaluate and apply client consultation and patient observation
How to qualify.
- Minimum age: completed grade 12 or be a minimum of 19 years of age
- Photo ID required (Driver's License, Passport, or BCID)
- Completed Student Enrolment Contract before application is processed
This is a Class B program — no prior experience or prerequisite program is required. Ashford Career College nor the student applicant may waive the admission requirements.
This program is the prerequisite for the Advanced Laser Program.
Start Dates
Year-round enrollment. Begin once registration and payment are complete. Spots are limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
